Oestrogen release            HRT

1-Day Progesterone / Oestradiol Test

  • HOT FLUSHES?
  • LOSS OF LIBIDO?
  • IRRITABILITY?
  • INSOMNIA?
  • USING PROGESTERONE CREAMS?
Although menopause is a normal part of a woman's maturation, many individuals experience discomfort due to a decrease in the levels of the sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone.

Hormone replacement therapy is widely used to counteract these symptoms, and with the increasing use of 'natural' progesterone creams, it is vitally important to accurately assess the levels of hormones. Our studies have indicated that it is not uncommon for extremely high levels of progesterone to be produced through the use of supplementation. If progesterone levels are high then many of the symptoms it was originally being  used to counter may actually recur.

Why use Saliva?

Recent studies have shown that there is an urgent need for reliable, clinically relevant assessment of hormone activity. The measurement of Oestradiol and Progesterone from saliva enables us to accurately measure the free and therefore active components of these hormones. Much of these hormones are bound in a protein form that is usually measured in blood samples. It is possible to have a normal total amount of a hormone, but this does not always represent the 'free' hormones which are physiologically active. Saliva is also a convenient method of assessing the levels of hormones produced by hormone replacement therapy.
