How to Take a Test

Ordering a test from Genova Diagnostics is easy.  Kits can be ordered by selecting the appropriate test using the online ordering system using your practitioner's reference code, or by contacting the laboratory directly. Once ordered, the kits are despatched to you by first class post; you supply the samples and return them to us for processing.

The majority of our test kits can be used in your own home, but some kits requiring a blood sample will need the assistance of your GP/practice nurse, or could be taken from one of our Phlebotomy centres.

Results will be released to your referring practitioner who will release them to you.  We can help you to find a practitioner should you wish.

Our laboratory hours are Monday to Friday from 9.00am until 5.00pm. If you would like assistance to find a qualified practitioner in your area with whom you can discuss your case history in more detail, and who can guide you towards the most appropriate testing, please contact the laboratory on 020 8336 7750.

Sample requirements and testing procedures

Sample requirements vary for each test and the necessary patient preparation can also vary. All test kits are supplied with patient requirements and detailed instructions on how to carry out the test.  Failure to carry out the test according to the instructions may result in the sample being rejected and a delay in receiving results.

Posting and Handling

Postal requirements vary with each test and are clearly marked on the test kit instructions; however we strongly advise all samples are couriered or posted by next day delivery to arrive by Friday (the laboratory is closed over weekends).

Royal Mail offer a Special Delivery Service which is guaranteed for next day delivery, by 1.00pm. You would need to take your package to the Post Office and arrange this once the samples are ready for sending back to us. Alternatively, we offer a UK next day courier collection service whereby the samples can be collected from a location convenient for you. This service costs £10 and you will be prompted about this again when paying for your kits on-line.

Samples received outside of the suggested postage dates may be discarded and the patient asked to repeat the test.

Please note the following:

  • All samples must be returned in the containers provided by GDX
  • Ensure all containers are secured by sufficiently tightening lids and where necessary placing into the transport container provided
  • All samples must be clearly labelled with full name, date of birth and sample date - failure to do this will result in the samples being rejected.
  • All samples (except hair samples) must be returned next day delivery
