Digestive Tract

Comprehensive Stool Analysis & Parasitology

Why is the gut so important ?

Digestive problems are one of the leading causes of visits to a GP. Two in every three people have problems with their digestive tract or have conditions which are influenced by the health of the digestive system.

The health of the gastrointestinal tract is often linked to the proper functioning of many other organs and systems within the body; including gastrointestinal tract can impact on hepatic, neurological, immunological, musculoskeletal, and other vital body organ functions.

The ability to digest and absorb nutrients from food is one of the cornerstones of good health. Poor digestion and malabsorption can contribute to degenerative diseases, compromised immune status, and deficiency states caused by inadequate mineral, vitamin, carbohydrate, fat and amino acid intake.

In addition to proper digestion and absorption, the gut must maintain a well balanced ecosystem of millions of bacterial flora. This delicate balance, however can easily become altered and result in many health concerns. These include IBS, food intolerances, Coeliac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease.

Signs and symptoms associated with gut imbalances:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Undesirable changes in bowel movements
  • Signs of malabsorption such as floating, bulky, foul smelling stools
  • Belching, bloating, indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation, cramping
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease, ulcers
  • Blood or mucous in stools, black or tarry stools, stool colour changes
  • Parasites in stool, anal itching
  • Food allergies, food intolerance, halitosis
  • Auto-immune illness, immunodeficiencies, increased allergenicity
  • Symptoms of chronic infection, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia
  • Skin conditions such as acne or eczema
  • Attention difficulties, ADD, hyperactivity, impulsive, or aggressive behavior, learning difficulties, poor concentration and memory
  • Brain fog, confusion, behavioral changes
  • Anxiety, depression
  • Arthritis, joint pain, rheumatoid disease, osteoarthritis
  • Asthma, hayfever allergies
  • Menopause, PMS symptoms, menstrual problems
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Endocrine or neurological imbalances
  • Fungal (yeast) infections (Candidiasis)
  • Poor regulation of diabetes, glucose intolerance, hypoglycaemia
  • Cholesterol and triglyceride imbalances
  • Cancer risk
  • Anaemia, vitamin or mineral deficiencies

CDSA: This detailed test evaluates digestion, absorption, gut flora, and the colonic environment including immunology. The profile is indicated for all chronic GI problems, for acute bowel pattern changes, and for many systemic diseases and provides a sensitivity panel for treating pathogenic flora.

CDSAP: This extended version of the CDSA test also includes an evaluation for parasites using microscopic examination and EIA testing.

CDSA 2.0: This is the most comprehensive and advanced stool test available. The CDSA 2.0 significantly expands the ability to identify pathogenic yeast in the gastrointestinal tract through a proprietary Optimized Parasite Recovery technology. In addition, the analysis detects both C. difficile toxins A and B, the number one cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The CDSA 2.0 evaluates digestion, absorption, gut flora, and the colonic environment including immunology and inflammation. The profile is indicated for all chronic GI problems, for acute bowel pattern changes, and for many systemic diseases and provides a sensitivity panel for treating pathogenic flora. This new "gold-standard" analysis of digestive function and gut microbial ecology now offers comprehensive non-invasive risk assessment for differential diagnosis between inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome, reliable assessment of exocrine pancreatic function without interference from digestive supplements, changes in stool transit time, or marker variability.

CDSAP 2.0: This expanded version of the CDSA 2.0 incorporates an assessment for parasites also using the Optimized Parasite Recovery technology.

Comprehensive Parasitology: The Comprehensive Parasitology assesses bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and infectious pathogens. A sensitivity panel using natural and prescriptive agents is carried out for any bacteria or yeast found.

Parasitology: The parasitology test looks for parasites and infectious pathogens only.

Macroscopic examination for worms: Examination for adult cestodes, nematodes and trematodes or pieces of worms that may be shed in the stool.

Calprotectin: Calprotectin is a reliable marker for the presence of infectious, inflammatory or malignant disease.
