Oxidative Stress Analysis

The Oxidative Stress Analysis is a sensitive assessment utilizing aspirin and acetaminophen as challenge substances to evaluate the body's oxidative stress status and antioxidant reserve.

Oxidative stress is increasingly implicated in disease and ageing, and is triggered from excessive free radical activity.  Free radicals are normal and necessary by-products of many physiological processes including energy production, detoxification and immunity.  However excessive free radical production can result from sources such as environmental pollutants, cigarette smoke, drugs and radiation.  These unstable molecules can create havoc in the body in their determination to ‘stabilise’, causing oxidative damage to proteins and membrane lipids.   Maintaining optimal reserves of antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, carotenoids, phenols and flavonoids, can help to counteract excessive oxidative stress where present.

Conditions affected by oxidative stress include:

  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Cancer
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Macular Degeneration
  • Neuro-degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
