Stress Analysis
The Oxidative
Stress Analysis is a sensitive assessment
utilizing aspirin and acetaminophen as challenge substances
to evaluate the body's oxidative stress
status and antioxidant reserve.
Oxidative stress is
increasingly implicated in disease and ageing,
and is triggered from excessive free radical
activity. Free radicals are normal and
necessary by-products of many physiological
processes including energy production,
detoxification and immunity. However
excessive free radical production can result
from sources such as environmental
pollutants, cigarette smoke, drugs and
radiation. These unstable molecules
can create havoc in the body in their
determination to ‘stabilise’, causing
oxidative damage to proteins and membrane
lipids. Maintaining optimal
reserves of antioxidant nutrients such as
vitamin C, vitamin E, carotenoids, phenols
and flavonoids, can help to counteract
excessive oxidative stress where present.
