IgG 88 Food Panel

Antibody (allergic) reaction

IgG 88 Food Panel

Food allergy is defined as an immunologically mediated adverse reaction to food, and has been implicated in a wide range of medical conditions affecting virtually every part of the body - including indigestion, migraines, eczema, skin problems, sinusitis and recurrent ear infections. They can also result in severe illnesses such as Coeliacs Disease, arthritis and chronic infection, and disorders of the central nervous system, such as depression, anxiety, and chronic fatigue.

The IgG Antibody Test can help to assess delayed food allergy reactions  - so called 'hidden allergies' or food intolerance/ sensitivities, whose effect may not show up for hours or days after exposure to an antigenic substance. In addition, spices can also be tested. High levels of IgG food specific antibodies, often to foods regularly consumed, can also indicate intestinal hyperpermeability, or 'leaky gut syndrome'.

Differences between Allergy, Sensitivity & Intolerance Testing:

Food Allergen Cellular (FAC) Test: This test measures both allergy (IgE antibody reactions) and delayed reactions (histamine and leukotriene release) to a wide variety of foods. It does not measure IgG antibodies, and will not distinguish between allergies/ intolerances. Various profiles of this test are available.

IgE Food/ Inhalent Panel: This test measures IgE antibodies, which are produced in an immediate allergic reaction (not delayed reaction) to a number of foods or inhalant allergens. Individual allergens can be ordered on request, or panels of 5 and 10 foods can be made to your individual needs.

Comprehensive Food Allergy Profile: A combination of the IgE Food Panel and full FAC Test (as above). This also measures tissue transglutaminase, a measure of Coeliacs Disease.

Lactose intolerance Breath Test: Lactose intolerance is due to a deficiency of the lactose (milk sugar) digesting enzyme, called lactase, and can result in an intolerance to dairy produce. This is not an allergic or hypersensivity reaction and is more common in people of Asian or African/ Afro-Caribbean decent.
